I attended the DTLB meeting held from 9.30-12 this morning and witnessed them debating whether to adapt plan change 78. Auckland council has drafted this change in response to the government’s intention to create the capacity for 2m further homes within Auckland city. This change seeks to create more intensity within designated areas as a substitute for building in flood zones and threatening special character areas (such as Devonport). DTLB approved the change but identified about 40 recommended areas of concern for consideration by the Council. George Wood was the sole dissenter of the 5 strong board.
