I believe strongly that community facilities serve an invaluable role within urban life through bringing people together and offering an outlet for their cultural, creative and physical talent.
In aggregate I have served for roughly 50 years within community organisations spanning the sports and arts fields. Notably, I have served for 12 years as President of the Shepherds Park Squash Club and 13 years as Race Director for the Devonport JETS run. Four years as manager of the North Shore Rugby club has given me broad contact with a large range of local people and an awareness of society’s needs.
Financial support for these facilities is dependant on volunteers within these spaces making maximum effort to increase participation and justify public support. We are fortunate to have a wide range of facilities across the North Shore but these are often within aged and expensive facilities. Some level of cost needs to be borne by the patrons of these facilities.
